Have you ever dreamed of swimming with dolphins? Feeding rays? Feeding exotic birds up close and personal?
I did all of this and more on my last Orlando holiday, in surroundings that felt like a castaway paradise island. Where is this magical place? Discovery Cove.
Now one thing you need to know about Discovery Cove is that it is one of the more expensive parks in Orlando, but having said that, it is worth every single penny, and then some. My day in this paradise park was the biggest highlight of my holiday, and that is really something coming from a Disney fan!
Cutting costs before you go means you can afford this luxury extra to your break, and if you can grab one of the cheap flights to Orlando, then you’re more likely to be able to do this. Your add-ons to your travel plans will save you money too, such as thinking about how you get to your particular airport. I recently booked Gatwick parking with Holiday Extras, and this saved me a decent amount of money compared to the train or coach cost of a family of four. This money was all put towards our day in Discovery Cove.
Now, let’s talk specifics.
You need to book your particular day at Discovery Cove well in advance. The park only allows so many people in at any one time, so you have to pre-book to secure your place. This is a huge advantage, because it means you’re not going to be jostling for space, and you can actually move without having to push people out of the way! If you want to swim with the dolphins, then you also have to book this place at the time of booking your entrance ticket.
You are able to book a day in the park without the dolphin swim for less than the cost of this included, but I would highly recommend this add-on for anyone. I can’t swim, I’m actually scared of deep water, but the staff within the park, and of course my beautiful dolphin friend, made what I felt was an impossibility, totally possible and it is one of my favourite memories of my life so far.
Discovery Cove is an all-inclusive day, so all your food, drink and snacks for the duration of your day in the park is taken care of. Now, this isn’t just any old food, it is good, delicious food, filling, and plentiful! On my visit there was alcoholic drinks also available, however do remember that you are going to be swimming and spending time in the water, so it may be wise to limit these to moderation!
Put simply, my day in Discovery Cove was a joy and a very memorable time. I would recommend anyone heading to Orlando to pay that little extra and enjoy their day in this castaway paradise.
