If someone asked you where you'd find one of the oldest port cities in the world, you'd never have guessed that it's The City of Acre in Israel, would you?
And if someone were to ask you what the holiest city in the world is to members of the Bahai religion? Again, You wouldn't guess that The City of Acre is the unswer, right?
Don't you think it's time?!
In Acre you can find churches, mosques, and synagogues like in the old days, with Torahs in arks made of pure silver.
You can visit a fortress that's hundreds of years old with a genuine gallows where people were put to death for hundreds and hundreds of years (not for the faint of heart), see cells for solitary confinement (it will be a little cold in there), and visit knights' chambers (that's not just a name, there were actually knights in Acre once, and they fought fiercely).
You can even walk in a real subterranean tunnel which is hundreds of years old, but was only discovered recently, when it was stumbled upon completely by accident. You can wander underground just like they did hundreds of years ago, and pretend that you're escaping from Napoleon. What does he have to do with anything? Napoleon, the French Emperor, tried to conquer Acre once, and you can see a statue of him and his horse there to this day.
Of course you can also stroll the boardwalk that runs the length of the beach – one of the most beautiful places in Israel. Wander the markets that are full of exotic scents, fascinating mementos, things to snack on, and... Did we already mention – it's really time you checked it out!!!
