Las Vegas might not be somewhere you automatically think about when it comes to holidays for families, and indeed for impressionable young teenagers.
This city of bright lights and probable debauchery also has a side that many don’t see, with family-based activities and entertainment for all age groups. Don’t be put off by the rumours you hear and the impression that is portrayed on the TV – never judge a book by its cover!
Picking which hotel to stay in will be the hardest part, and yes, they all do have casinos, which isn’t always the thing you want your teen to be seeing. Here is a fantastic resource on kid friendly hotels in Las Vegas. Regardless of this, you’re not really going to let them run wild around the hotel anyway, so it shouldn’t be too much of a problem.
You might think it’s simply a huge tower, but you’d be wrong! At the top of the tower are restaurants, bars, a stunning view, and some seriously thrill seeking rides. This is one part of the city that your teenager will love, and if they’re into rides then buy a group ticket, which will allow them to go on one, two, or even all three of the scary, nail-biting rides at the top. Of course, the view is pretty amazing too.
The Grand Canyon
Everyone would love this, regardless of age, and seeing the awe of nature won’t fail to stun your teens. There are plentiful tours to the Grand Canyon, many going via Hoover Damn, whether this is by coach, self-drive, or even helicopter.
Helicopter ride over the Strip
A ride in a helicopter will put a smile on that teen’s face, and a night-time ride over the bright lights will no doubt be just the ticket. These can be picked up quite cheaply from many different excursion offices on the Strip, so just shop around for the best. The view is out of this world.
Shark Reef Aquarium, Mandalay Bay
The huge aquarium at Mandalay Bay, down the far end of the Strip, near to the airport, will be one to keep your teens occupied. You could also make a day of it and stay on afterwards for a show at the hotel.
The hotels are something to blow your mind alone, and you can easily lose a day or so walking around them. Each hotel is themed, e.g. Paris Paris is obviously in the theme of Paris! The Luxor is ancient Egypt, and Caesar’s Palace is like a Roman palace. This can’t fail to interest the teen in your life.
Don’t be fooled into thinking that Vegas is simply for stag do’s, those who love a flutter, and drunken antics – there is another side to this fascinating and entertaining city.
