1. Beersheba is the second largest city in Israel in terms of area. (The first is Jerusalem). Beersheba is the sixth largest city in Israel in terms of population.
2. Beersheba is one of the oldest cities in the world!
3. For many years Beersheba was the place where Bedouins would gather from all across the Negev once a week for "Bedouin Market Day". They would trade mostly in camels, cows, and the equipment necessary for survival in the desert. Over the years, the nature of the market has changed, and nowadays, every Thursday, Beersheba houses the "Bedouin Market". People come from all over the area, and even from all over the country, to experience this unique market. Today it is not only Bedouins who sell in the market, but also other Arabs and Jews. Almost anything can be found in this unique colorful market. Well, almost anything. The one thing that's really hard to find today in the market is even one small camel for sale...
4. The name of the city, Beersheba, is connected to the story of Abraham. Abraham dug a well for drinking water (you know, water didn't always come flowing to us in pipes!) and Avimelech, the King of Grar, stole the well from him. The two argued, and decided to make an agreement. King Avimelech admitted that the well belonged to Abraham, and Abraham gave King Avimelech 7 sheep. In memorial of the fight over the well, and to remember the agreement (with the seven sheep), the city was called Beersheba, the well of seven!
5. Israel Sinfonietta Beersheba – The local symphony orchestra of Beersheba is considered one of the best in Israel.
6. Soroka Hospital is in Beersheba. There are more births there than at any other hospital in Israel.

10. Many years ago a special ice cream shop opened up in Beersheba, called the Beersheba Ice Cream Shop. It was opened by a very nice old lady who had immigrated from Poland with a special secret recipe for excellent ice cream. The ice cream was so exceptional that all kinds of people, on their way to Eilat for vacation, would stop in Beersheba just to have her special ice cream. Branches were eventually opened up all around the country, but the original shop is still open in the old city of Beersheba.
