Your dream Mexican holiday need not be a stress-fest, a constant need to keep the teenager in your life occupied and grump-free. This beautiful part of the world is geared up for every age group, and that means there are plentiful activities for that difficult age group too.
A day’s splashing on the beach might be enough, but if not, then there are activities that will thrill, inspire, and occupy even the most difficult of teenagers. Let’s look at a few of them.
Xcaret & Xel-Ha
Strictly speaking an area of natural importance and culturally too, Xcaret especially is a great place to take the teens in your life for a few hours. This privately owned theme park is also a tourist resort and ecotourism area, so whether they’re into nature, thrills and spills, or basically open spaces in which to wander, then this is a definite must visit. Head to the official websites to get a clear idea of what is on offer, and you might find you need to factor in a day or two here.
This might sound a little educational, but bear with me. This part of the world is beautiful, there’s no denying that, but it’s also extremely important ecologically, and because of that there are plentiful guided tours you can head out into. Rainforests, lagoons, you name it, and there is nothing more awe-inspiring than spotting rare wildlife, regardless of age.
Speaking of nature and wildlife, spotting rare and beautiful marine-life will be a winner with your teenager. Lying on a beach might do it, but if not, there are many different water-sports on offer. Most all inclusive hotels have their own stretch of private beach, and the sand is white, the water is warm, and the palm trees sway.
We’re going all educational again, but touring some of the important ruins around this part of the world has to be done, and with Chichen Itza a World Wonder, that should grab the attention of your teenager. You can also head off on guided tours of Tulum, Coba and Uxmal quite easily.
Spending that holiday money won’t be difficult, with large malls, small, quaint shops, and markets dotted all around the area. Teenagers might seem like a whole different species from time to time, but they’re not so different from the rest of us – we all love something new and shiny!
