I shouldn’t have to lecture anyone on the importance of travel insurance. We all know it’s a vital part of any holiday booking, right? Regardless of where you’re going, how long for, and with who, you should always have an adequate and valid travel insurance policy about your person.

If you are one of the few people who try and take the risk of not arranging adequate cover, are you crazy?!

What if something was to go wrong? I know we don’t like talking about ‘what if’, but I’m sure everyone has read a story about someone who ended up in hospital overseas and had to pay a huge medical bill because they didn’t have insurance, or someone who lost all their belongings and wasn’t covered.

Don’t let this be you.

If you’re travelling with children, perhaps insurance is even more important, because we all know that if there is an accident waiting to happen, a child will generally find it. Now, we all hope that the eventuality never happens, and that you have a happy and healthy family holiday to remember for all the right reasons, but peace of mind is something that can’t be bought.

It’s not hard to find great value single trip insurance online, and it doesn’t take long to organise either, meaning it can be slotted into your morning sit down with the laptop and a cup of tea, without upsetting your day.

What do you need to remember? Well, be sure to stick to these few rules and you won’t go far wrong.

Medical conditions – Remember to declare any pre-existing medical conditions pertaining to yourself and anyone else you’re booking onto the policy. Always be 100% honest, as in the event of a claim and if they find out you haven’t furnished them fully with details, your policy could be void.

Destinations – Make sure you select the right geographical area for the destination you’re visiting. Some companies have different definitions of the countries they class as Europe, but there will generally be a list you can check against, just to be sure.

Add-ons – Are you planning on doing any winter sports? Make sure you’re covered by checking the small print. It might be that you need to buy an add-on.

The right policy – There are different policies for different types of holidays, and if you’re not sure which is best for you, give the company a call and explore your options.

Follow this advice and you will have total peace of mind, safe in the knowledge that if the unexpected does happen whilst you’re away, you have a very comfortable safety net.
