When a Weekend is Not Enough: Family Holidays in Orlando…

Imagine a family trip to a place where its main goal is to make sure visitors have as much fun as possible: welcome to Orlando! It’s a resort with just enough kitsch to be endearing, but not so much where it feels inauthentic. Home to Disney World, The Harry Potter Wizarding World, and so many other fun things to do, it’s the perfect spot to spend some time with the kids. As you’ll see below, there is something for everyone in this land of sun.

Disney World

The home of our childhood stories, Orlando and Disney World fit together like Mickey and Minnie The sprawling entertainment venue hosts the Magic Kingdom Park, Epcot, and many more, all different from the next. Do the kids have an affinity for fast rides? Then a trip to Hollywood Studios is in order. Looking for a more educational experience for everyone? There’s Futureworld in Epcot. Flights to Orlando are worth the trip to the Sunshine State if only for Disney World.

A real life Harry Potter experience

Now for fans of Harry Potter (and let’s face it, who isn’t) there’s the holy grail of interaction, the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Here visitors can walk through Diagon Alley and see the stores from the story come to life. Pick up a wand at Ollivanders Shop, or maybe some tricks and treats at Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes. It’s a day fans of Harry Potter will remember for a very long time.

Play in the water

It gets hot in Orlando. Luckily, there’s plenty of water to cool off in. Within miles of Orlando, you’ve got beaches, springs, and water parks galore. For a relaxing day, you can float downstream on an inflatable tube and float the day away. Start at Blue Springs State Park  and if you’re lucky you might come across some manatees floating along with you.

Or, if you have a family that gets a thrill out of water parks, Orlando still has you covered. Frankly, there are too many to name, but rest assured, there’s something exciting and fun at each one. Just remember, the earlier you go the better, as these are popular attractions and can get busy quick.

Imagine if everything around you was made out of Lego. That’s exactly what it’s like at LEGOLAND. It’s one of the most buzzed about parks in Florida, and it’s easy to see why. EVERYTHING is made of out Lego; there’s even a roller coaster made out of the tiny bricks! It’s a bit of a drive out of Orlando (an hour), but for any fans of this toy it is well worth it.

Other fun stuff to do

Lest you think that theme parks are the one thing your family can enjoy. Quite the contrary, there’s so much more. Flights to Orlando lead to alligator shows, zip lining over swamps, swimming with dolphins, and even a visit with some manatees off the Florida coast.

A family holiday to Orlando makes sense. The city has built around having something fun to do no matter what your age. All you’ve got to do is go.
